For only after-school care for two 8 yr olds-$820 per month. Plus $110 per day for non-holidays when school is closed. Ugh.

The first thing that should be cut from spending are the salaries and benefit packages of the incompetent and uncompromising congress that we (unfortunately) elected. No more salary, no more perks, no more obscene government retirement plan.

We're living longer & SS wasn't intended to cover long retirement. I plan to work til I drop even if I have $$ to retire to keep active.

I don't know how it is in Texas but our teachers here are paid a full salary (avg about $60,000) year round - and they get three full months of vacation + per year.

The true cost of the current system is to our children and our nation's future. Yes, it may cost a bit more to keep the kids in school an extra 20 days a year but let's look at the long-term effects.
